Northridge’s Noel Reaches Final in Javelin at NCAA Track Meet

Garrett Noel of Cal State Northridge threw the javelin 227 feet 5 inches Wednesday to qualify for the final in that event in the NCAA Division I track and field championships at the University of Texas at Austin.

Noel, a junior and the school record-holder (234-1) in the event, was the No. 6 qualifier among the 12 who advanced to Friday’s final. He is the first male athlete from Northridge to qualify for the final of an event in the Division I championships.

Senior Dave Bunevacz of UCLA, a former standout at Glendale College and Paraclete High, qualified fifth with a throw of 237-8.

Favorite Art Skipper of Oregon led all qualifiers with a throw of 242-5.
