CSUN’s Vines Gains Semifinals of 100-Meter Dash in NCAA Meet
Charlotte Vines of Cal State Northridge advanced to the semifinals of the women’s 100 meters, but the Matadors’ Sasha Vujic was eliminated in a heat of the men’s 1,500 Thursday in the NCAA Division I track and field championships at the University of Texas at Austin.
Vines, a junior, matched her personal best in the 100 with a time of 11.68 seconds to place fifth in the third heat despite stumbling for a few steps after coming out of the blocks.
The top four finishers in each of three heats, plus the next four fastest competitors, qualified for today’s semifinals. Vines edged Zundra Feagin of Nevada Las Vegas for the 16th and final spot in the semifinals.
Vujic, who holds the CSUN school record of 3:41.23, faded in the final 300 meters to finish 11th in the second heat of the 1,500 with a time of 3 minutes 53.53 seconds.
