Voges’ Round Ends Early in the Rain
Mitch Voges, the defending U.S. Amateur champion who shot the highest score Wednesday in the opening round of the Memorial golf tournament in Dublin, Ohio, was among 33 players still on the course Friday when play was suspended because of heavy rain and lightning.
Voges, of Simi Valley, carded a 15-over-par 87 in the first round on the Jack Nicklaus-designed Muirfield Village Golf Club course to trail leader Nolan Henke by 22 shots. Henke and Joey Sindelar were leaders in the clubhouse Friday at 10 under par.
