The Bull and Baby Bull made a negotiating call on the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium. But it remains to be seen if it will it be a bull market for Ryan Luzinski.

Luzinski was the 32nd player selected during Tuesday’s draft and the first choice of the Dodgers, who got the pick as compensation for the New York Mets’ signing of free agent Eddie Murray.

“We know each other’s position now and we’ll see what happens,” said Fred Claire, executive vice president of the Dodgers.

Luzinski was accompanied by his father, Greg, the former Philadelphia Phillie outfielder. His son, a catcher out of Holy Cross High in Delran, N.J., has the option of a football-baseball scholarship to Miami.

“I was disappointed at first not to be drafted higher,” Ryan Luzinski said, “but when I looked at the situation I couldn’t have been happier. Half of the guys taken in the first round were taken by clubs that don’t have the money to pay them.

“I was the Dodgers’ first choice, and they’ve said they’ll make a good effort to sign me. That’s all I can ask.”

Luzinski added that he has put no deadline on the Dodgers in regard to the Miami offer.

“I want to sign. I want to play,” he said of the Dodgers. “But I won’t sell Miami short, and I won’t sell myself short.”
