A San Diego man charged with shooting his 18-year-old son to death while attacking his estranged wife was ordered Tuesday to stand trial.

San Diego Municipal Judge Terry J. Knoepp bound over Nolan Paul Jackson Jr., 37, for trial in Superior Court on six charges, including murder, attempted murder and spousal abuse. Jackson is to appear there June 22.

Jackson hung his head and quietly wept as his wife, Beverly Jackson, 34, testified at a preliminary hearing that Jackson broke into her house and terrorized the family he had been ordered to stay away from.

“He busted in on me and started hitting me,” she said of the incident that occurred early May 4.

She testified that her husband beat her as she made her way to the room of her son, Nolan Paul Jackson Jr. Once inside the room, mother and son fought to keep Jackson in the hallway, but, when she went to use the telephone, Jackson followed her inside, Beverly Jackson testified.

“Paul Jr. was trying to keep Paul Sr. from coming after me, and that’s when I heard two shots,” she testified.

The younger Jackson died after being shot in the chest and stomach.

After the shooting, Beverly Jackson testified, her husband chased her into the yard and tripped and pistol-whipped her.

Jackson did not stop the beating until he was struck with BBs fired by his 13-year-old son, she testified.

Beverly Jackson had a temporary restraining order issued against her husband. She had given him a ride from her City Heights home to East San Diego earlier in the day.

“I just wanted him to leave me alone,” she testified. “He just kept coming over and coming over and coming over, and I just wanted him to leave me and the kids alone.”
