BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Junior Felix to Be Activated

Share

Junior Felix, whose team leadership in runs batted in hasn’t been even mildly challenged while he has been on the disabled list, will be activated today. Felix, who pulled a groin muscle May 27, said he has been fit for about a week and is eager to get back into the lineup.

To clear a spot on the roster, John Morris will be placed on the disabled list retroactive to June 8 because of viral gastritis.

“I don’t like to sit around and watch. It’s not me,” said Felix, who collected 31 RBIs in 40 games, his best start. “It’s tough to watch when the team is losing. . . . I hope I can come back and do my job so we start to win. We need to win some games. We’re not executing in situations and when you don’t do that kind of thing, you’ve got problems. “

Lance Parrish’s torn right thumbnail is healing well, according to head trainer Ned Bergert, but he’s unable to grip a ball securely. If he’s not better soon, he might go on the disabled list.

“I don’t think we can go too much longer,” interim Manager John Wathan said. “With a short bench, there’s not a whole lot of moves you can make.” Emphasizing that point, Wathan used pitcher Mark Langston as a pinch runner in the ninth inning Wednesday night.

With few reserves, Wathan is almost forced to play Gary Gaetti and Von Hayes every day, although Hayes has only three RBIs since April 17 and 11 overall, and Gaetti has had no RBIs since May 23 and also has 11 overall.

Bryan Harvey, placed on the disabled list Sunday because of a sore right elbow, won’t begin to throw until he’s free of pain. . . . The Angels have scored three runs or fewer in 35 of 57 games this season and 14 of the last 15.
