CAMARILLO : Water Fees to Rise for 9,500 Customers

Share

Starting July 1, fees for 9,500 Camarillo city water customers will rise to offset the city’s increased cost of buying water from the Metropolitan Water District.

The City Council approved the increase unanimously at Wednesday’s meeting.

The prices in the first of the city water system’s four tiers will increase from 80 cents to 90 cents per 100 cubic feet. Last year, the city raised this charge from 70 cents to 80 cents.

Prices in the other three tiers of the system--which is structured so that the more water residents use, the more they pay--will remain the same.

Also, the monthly service charge will rise from $8.35 to $9 to offset the costs of operating the city system, the first such increase in two years.

John Elwell, community services director, said he expects no further fee increases for a while. “That’s it for at least 12 months,” he said.

These 9,500 customers have reduced their water consumption by 33% in the past year, Elwell said.
