Another Flop: Arazi Finishes Fifth at Ascot
Arazi, eighth as the favorite in the Kentucky Derby, was fifth in the St. James’s Palace Stakes over a mile on grass at Ascot, England, on Tuesday.
It was the second bad race in a row for Arazi, easy winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs last fall.
Said jockey Steve Cauthen: “I’m not sure if it’s a mental or physical thing.
The St. James’s Palace was won by 25-1 shot Brief Truce. Brief Truce’s trainer, Dermot Weld, who frequently races horses in the United States, said he would point his horse toward the Breeders’ Cup at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale, Fla., on Oct. 31.
