One-time super colt Arazi will be given a two-month break after his second disappointing performance in a major thoroughbred race.

Arazi, trained in France by Francois Boutin, finished fifth in a field of eight in the St. James Palace Stakes at the Royal Ascot racetrack Tuesday.

In May, Arazi finished eighth in the Kentucky Derby as a heavy favorite. Arazi had been regarded as one of the greatest 2-year-olds ever after a spectacular victory in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.

Anthony Stroud, racing manager to part-owner Sheikh Mohammed, said Wednesday: “We will investigate every aspect of his performance to establish what went wrong.

“But Francois Boutin is not too disappointed. He felt his blood is not right. It could have been that or a combination of things.

“We will put him away now for a couple of months and the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (at Ascot) in mid-September is likely to be his next target.”
