THOUSAND OAKS : Residential Water Rates May Be Raised

Thousand Oaks residents may see water bills increase next month under a proposal to raise basic water rates by 26% and per-unit charges by 17%.
City utilities director Donald Nelson, in a report to the City Council, recommended increasing the basic rate from $5.50 to $6.95. He also recommended an increase for every 100 cubic feet consumed from $1.13 to $1.38.
The council will consider the matter when it meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall.
About 13,310 households that are supplied by the city are expected to use less water in 1992-93 than they did two years ago, but the cost of water to the city is expected to jump to $3.86 million next year from $3.1 million this year, Nelson said.
The city is passing along increases from its main water supplier, the Calleguas Municipal Water District, Nelson said. On July 1, Calleguas’ price for wholesale water will jump from $347 per acre-foot to $424 per acre-foot. An acre-foot is about 326,000 gallons.
If adopted, the new rates will become effective for Thousand Oaks customers July 1.
