They All Have Heard the Sad Story Before: Steve Howe Suspended

Quoting Mike Downey: “Baseball is one game that must be played fair.” Yet he hastens to ridicule Steve Howe for his off-field disease and cites Pete Rose’s lifetime ban for off-field betting.

But no mention of Gary Sheffield’s quote in The Times and other publications that he deliberately made errors and struck out to hurt his team.

If Rose has a lifetime ban with possibility of parole, then Sheffield should have a lifetime ban with no possibility of parole. Isn’t Sheffield’s offense the same as fixing games?
