Jockey Garcia Injured in Los Alamitos Spill
Quarter horse jockey Eddie Garcia, who has led the Los Alamitos standings for the last year, is expected to sit out at least four weeks of riding after suffering a broken collarbone Sunday night during a spill in the 10th race.
Garcia was riding Fumble Rooski in the 300-yard maiden race for 2-year-olds when the horse broke down. Garcia was thrown, then rolled over by Fumble Rooski.
Garcia, who had won two races on the program, was taken to Los Alamitos General Hospital. The injury will cost him his mount on The Dream Doctor, a leading contender in next Saturday’s $100,500 Vessels Maturity. Fumble Rooski was destroyed.
