Duarte : $40 Added to Towing Fee

Share

People whose cars are towed in Duarte will have to pay an extra $40 to get them back under a resolution adopted Tuesday by the City Council.

About 40 cars and trucks are towed in Duarte each month. Costs incurred by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for the service have previously been billed to the city.

The new fee is expected to raise as much as $19,200 in the coming year.

The new fee is in addition to the basic towing charge of $65 and any traffic tickets or warrants owed.

The $40 fee was calculated as the cost of the time sheriff’s personnel require to impound and store a vehicle, according to a memo by safety coordination director Don Anderson.

Stolen vehicles recovered in the city will be exempt.
