Andretti Wins Second in a Row
Michael Andretti, who had struggled all season until winning a week ago at Portland, Ore., demolished his own race record in a runaway victory in Sunday’s Miller Genuine Draft 200 at Milwaukee.
Andretti drove his Ford Cosworth XB-powered Lola from fifth on the grid to first in half a lap on the one-mile Wisconsin State Fairgrounds Speedway oval in West Allis.
Pole-sitter Bobby Rahal retook the lead from Andretti on Lap 14, but Andretti regained it on Lap 38 and trailed again only when he made his final pit stop.
Andretti finished 24.898 seconds ahead of Rahal’s Lola-Chevrolet-A and averaged 138.031 m.p.h., easily breaking the mark of 134.557 he set a year ago.
