Jimmy Paul, former International Boxing Federation lightweight champion, will continue his comeback tonight when he meets unbeaten Carlos Gonzalez of Mexico City for the vacant World Boxing Organization junior-welterweight title at the Forum.

Paul, 32, from Detroit, has won six consecutive fights since returning to the ring in 1991 after going nearly four years without fighting.

His recent victories include a seventh-round technical knockout over previously unbeaten Todd Foster, a 1988 Olympian, last Feb. 7 in Atlantic City.

Paul, who has a career record of 32-4, with 24 knockouts, will have a 12-round scheduled battle against Gonzalez, the WBO’s top-ranked contender.

Gonzalez, 20, has a 31-0 record with 29 knockouts, including 17 inside the first round and 22 inside three.

He is making only his second appearance in the United States, having won a 10-round decision over Tim Brooks of Sacramento at the Forum May 11.

Also on the three-bout card, which begins at 7 p.m., are two 10-round fights. Ysias Zamudio of Blythe takes on Mexico’s Lorenzo Lopez in a flyweight match and junior-middleweight Al Long of Los Angeles meets Mario Solario of Mexico.
