Tennis Fans Benefit From Rain

Friday’s rain postponement of the men’s singles semifinals has made today’s Wimbledon schedule more attractive for viewers on a weekend that also will include another U.S. men’s basketball game and the summer complement of baseball and golf.

* Tennis: Coverage of the women’s final at Wimbledon between Monica Seles and Steffi Graf is scheduled to begin today at 8 a.m. on NBC (Channels 4, 36 and 39). Time allowing, the men’s semifinals will follow, with John McEnroe playing Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras of Palos Verdes taking on Goran Ivanisevic of Croatia. The men’s final is scheduled at 7 a.m. Sunday on NBC.

* Basketball: The U.S. Olympic men’s basketball team will play in the championship game of the Tournament of the Americas Sunday at 1 p.m. on NBC.

* Baseball: The Dodgers will play the fourth of a five-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies tonight at Dodger Stadium at 7 on SportsChannel. The Angels will visit the Toronto Blue Jays at 10:30 a.m. Sunday on KTLA Channel 5. CBS (Channels 2 and 8) will carry the Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves today at 10 a.m. The same teams will meet Sunday at 11 a.m. on TBS and WGN. The Oakland Athletics and the Cleveland Indians play Sunday at 5 p.m. on ESPN.

* Golf: The $1.1-million Centel Western Open will air on CBS today at 1:30 p.m. and Sunday at 12:30 p.m. ESPN will carry the Kroger Senior tournament today and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
