THOUSAND OAKS : McEnroe to Host Local Tennis Benefit

More than 5,000 spectators are expected to attend a Thousand Oaks celebrity tennis benefit Saturday to raise money for United Cerebral Palsy.

Current Wimbledon semifinalist and doubles champion John McEnroe will host the event at the North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village.

Activities will include round-robin tennis played by 48 celebrities from all fields of entertainment and sports. More than 60 celebrities will sign autographs at designated booths from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Spectators of all ages who bring a tennis racquet and wear sneakers may participate for prizes in an amateur tennis skills contest.

McEnroe and fellow celebrities will address the crowd from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Winners of drawings for a celebrity-autographed tennis ball and an electric guitar will be announced at 4:30 p.m.

Proceeds from admission and raffle ticket sales will benefit United Cerebral Palsy/The Spastic Children’s Foundation in Ventura and Los Angeles counties. Half the funds from the autographed guitar will be donated to Project ECO-School, a nonprofit organization that provides ecological information to university professors.

Tickets are $12.50 per adult and will be sold at the gate. There is no charge for children age 12 and younger. For more information, call (818) 889-3531.
