Vincent and the Cubs: A Strange Alignment

Isn’t it the height of contradiction for sportswriters, including Ross Newhan, to lambaste Commissioner Fay Vincent for taking strong actions on the Steve Howe and realignment cases?

Weren’t those same sportswriters for years blasting various commissioners for being patsies, having no guts, and knuckling under to that arrogant bunch of owners?

Fay Vincent has taken some stands that I’ll bet the great majority of baseball fans have applauded. He showed some spine and yet the magnificent sportswriting breed takes him apart for presumably usurping authority.
