Petr Korda’s aggressive serve-and-volley game ended the improbable glory ride of Sweden’s Henrik Holm as the Czech breezed to a 6-4, 6-4 victory in the final of the NationsBank Classic Sunday at Washington.

Holm, who came into the tournament ranked No. 114 in the world, saw his serve betray him in his first professional championship.

“I was a bit angry with myself,” said Holm, 23. “I didn’t feel too bad when I went on court, but I could feel that something was missing on my serve.”

Korda, 24, ranked No. 5 in the world, earned $81,600, while Holm, who upset Ivan Lendl and others along the way to the final, got $43,000.

Ukrainian teen-ager Andrei Medvedev capped his best week in tennis with a 6-1, 6-4, 6-7 (7-5), 2-6, 6-1 victory over Wayne Ferreira in the $1.04-million grand prix tournament at Stuttgart, Germany.

Medvedev, 17, upset top-seeded Stefan Edberg of Sweden and Thomas Muster of Austria earlier in the week, and he outlasted the seventh-seeded South African in a 2-hour 47-minute match. Medvedev earned $141,000.

Wimbledon champion Steffi Graf and teen-ager Anke Huber quickly wrapped up the Federation Cup title for Germany by winning their singles matches against defending champion Spain at Frankfurt, Germany.

Graf beat Arantxa Sanchez Vicario, 6-4, 6-2, in the second singles to deliver the title. Earlier, Huber outlasted Conchita Martinez, 6-3, 6-7 (7-0), 6-1. In the doubles, Sanchez Vicario and Martinez beat Huber and Barbara Rittner, 6-1, 6-2.
