Mr. Prospector Yearling Is Sold for $1.7 Million
A colt sired by Mr. Prospector brought the top price of $1.7 million on Monday during the opening session of Keeneland’s July Selected Yearling Sale.
Finney Bloodstock, as agent, bought the yearling for an undisclosed American agent. John Finney, principal owner of Finney Bloodstock, said the yearling would remain in the United States and would be trained in California by Charlie Whittingham.
The bay colt, consigned by Claiborne Farm, is out of Number, a daughter of Nijinsky II.
Another Mr. Prospector colt brought the day’s second-highest price of $950,000. The yearling was purchased by the Shadwell Estate Co. of Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum. The dark bay colt is out of Reminiscing, the dam of three stakes winners.
The average price at Monday’s session was down from last year. A total of 40 yearlings sold for $9,560,000, an average of $239,000. At last year’s opening session, 56 yearlings sold for $16,350,000, an average of $291,964.
