Countywide : Peace Officers Association Backs Wright for Senate

Assemblywoman Cathie Wright (R-Simi Valley) has been endorsed by the Los Angeles County Professional Peace Officers Assn. in her bid to represent the 19th Senate District.

“Assemblywoman Wright’s commitment to public service, as exemplified by years of community involvement, has given her the insight to the needs of her constituents,” association President Arthur J. Reddy said in a prepared statement.

Ironically, the association supported Wright’s chief rival, Marian W. La Follette, in the Republican primary in June. La Follette had raised questions about Wright’s integrity by bringing up 2-year-old charges that she once tried to intervene with authorities on behalf of her daughter, who had been facing jail time for running up 27 traffic tickets.

Reddy could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

Wright’s campaign manager, John Theiss, said the assemblywoman was pleased by the endorsement and was not bothered by the fact that the police association had previously supported La Follette.

“The primary’s over and now we can move ahead,” Theiss said.

Wright will face Democratic opponent Hank Starr, a Bell Canyon attorney, in the November general election.

The 19th Senate District stretches from the San Fernando Valley to Oxnard.
