Rap and Race: The Reaction

Share

I find it absolutely incredible how narrow-minded people are. It amazes me how something as powerful as the socioeconomic repression that led to the burning of Los Angeles has been reduced to lashing out at a song.

Why aren’t these finger-pointing pinheads who whine about lyrics questioning why events like the riots happen? Don’t those who read or hear the lyrics to songs like “Cop Killer” even think to look at the underlying issues? This song is about someone so frustrated with such limited choices that all he can think about is murder.

And solutions to these issues: Maybe we should help divert this person’s energy into finding a job or community service or getting an education. Just like the riots: People have such limited choices in life that all they could think about was destroying the very community in which they live.
