Mario Andretti won the pole position for Sunday’s Marlboro 500 with a lap of 230.150 m.p.h. at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Mich.
Andretti’s fast lap gave him the 65th pole of his career--extending his own series record--but his first since the season-ending Miami race in 1987. It also made the 52-year-old Andretti the oldest man to win an Indy-car pole.
