John McEnroe injured his foot in practice and withdrew from next week’s Volvo/Los Angeles tournament, but could be back in the field as a wild-card entrant if he gets medical clearance.

McEnroe aggravated a chronic foot injury while practicing Thursday at UCLA.

If McEnroe is unable to play, Michael Chang probably will take the wild-card berth.

Jimmy Connors won two sets, leading the Strings to a 29-19 World TeamTennis victory over the Newport Beach Dukes before 2,650 at Newport Beach.

Connors teamed with John Lloyd for a 6-2 victory over Ronnie Bathman and Rikard Bergh and defeated Bergh, 6-1, as the Strings (5-7) won their second consecutive match after a six-match losing streak.
