Bret Saberhagen, who sat out two months this season because of an inflamed finger, aggravated the injury Saturday and left in the fourth inning of the New York Mets’ doubleheader opener against the Chicago Cubs.

Saberhagen, making his third start since coming off the disabled list, gave up a single to Ryne Sandberg and a walk to Mark Grace before facing Andre Dawson in the fourth. After Dawson fouled off a 2-2 pitch, Saberhagen started shaking his hand.

The Mets said the finger would be iced overnight and that the pitcher will be examined again Sunday.
