LOCAL NOTES : Ferragamo to Work Ram Exhibitions

Vince Ferragamo, who was the quarterback in the Rams’ only Super Bowl appearance, will be the analyst on the team’s exhibition game telecasts on KCBS Channel 2. Jim Hill will be the play-by-play announcer.

The station will air Thursday’s exhibition opener against the Seattle Seahawks live at 6 p.m. and the Aug. 27 game at San Diego live at 7 p.m.

The Aug. 22 game against Green Bay at Anaheim Stadium will be carried on a delayed basis at 11:30 p.m.

The Aug. 15 game against the Raiders will be carried on a delayed basis by KCAL Channel 9.

Rob Kish of Port Orange, Fla. won the men’s division of cycling’s Race Across America, arriving in Savannah, Ga., at 3:01 p.m. (PDT) Saturday.

Bob Forney of Denver was second, 48 minutes behind. Kish averaged 356 miles per day. Seana Hogan of San Jose retained her lead in the women’s race at the Monroe, La., time station.

David Warady of Huntington Beach added nearly seven minutes to his overall lead by finishing fourth on Day 43 of the 64-day Runner’s World Trans America Footrace.

Warady covered the 33.9-mile time trial from Hannibal, Mo., to Pittsfield, Ill., in 5 hours 30 minutes 41 seconds. He leads Tom Rogozinski of Pittsburgh by 56:09 in the overall standings.

Switzerland’s Milan Milanovic won Saturday’s stage in 4:45:25.

Thirteen of the original 24 contestants remain in the race.

Mission Viejo’s Summer Brown finished third and Amy Sloan of Mission Viejo placed fourth in the women’s one-meter diving at the Zone D senior outdoor meet at USC. Both qualify for the U.S. outdoor national championships, Aug. 12-16 in Woodland, Tex.

In the men’s three-meter finals, Tyce Routson of Mission Viejo was seventh and Rich Beukema of Mission Viejo was ninth. Only the top four qualify for the nationals.

Rick Leach of Laguna Beach won two matches in the qualifying tournament for the Volvo/Los Angeles tennis tournament at UCLA’s Los Angeles Tennis Center.

Leach, ranked 512th in the world, defeated Lionel Roux of France, 6-2, 6-4, and Neil Borwick of Australia, 6-1, 6-1. Leach will face Glenn Michibata at noon today. The winner will face the winner of the Dave Randall-Clement N’Goran match for a berth in the 32-player main draw.

Mark Kaplan, a former UC Irvine standout, was eliminated by Brian Dunn, 6-2, 6-3, after defeating South Africa’s Marius Barnard, 6-4, 6-4.

Bob Lutz of San Clemente was eliminated in the first round of both singles and doubles at the Pacific Southwest Invitational senior tennis tournament at UCLA’s Los Angeles Tennis Center.

Lutz lost his singles match to Sandy Mayer, 6-4, 7-6, then teamed with Dick Stockton in a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Peter Fleming and Hank Pfister.

Alex Olmedo, the 1959 Wimbledon and Australian Open champion, defeated Herman Ahlers of Dana Point, 6-4, 6-2, in a semifinal of the U.S. Tennis Assn. men’s 55 hardcourt singles championship at Lindborg Racquet Club in Huntington Beach.

In today’s final, Olmedo will face Les Dodson of Kalamazoo, Mich., a 6-4, 6-1 victor over Bob Duesler of Newport Beach.

Dusler and partner Jim Nelson of Newport Beach reached the doubles finals with a 7-5, 7-5 victory over John Been and Bill Hyde of Houston. They will face Lenny Lindborg of Laguna Niguel and Mike Carpenter of Baton Rouge, 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-2 winners over Dodson and Larry Rauppius.

Lindborg and Larry Dodge of Fremont lost their 50 doubles semifinal to Geoff Grant and Len Saputo, 6-2, 6-3.

Cory McClenathan of Anaheim set a top fuel track record of 4.891 seconds in qualifying for the $894,350 Autolite Nationals drag race at Sears Point International Raceway in Sonoma.

Seat options for Cal State Fullerton’s new Titan Sports Complex and season tickets for 1992 football and soccer games go on sale Monday at the athletic ticket office in Titan Gym.

Options allow the fan to acquire “rights” to a seat location over a five-year period. The fan’s name is affixed to the chairback in either the football/soccer or baseball venues.

Prices start at $500 per seat and can be paid over a three-year span. Chairback seats in the football/soccer stadium are available on a season basis only to seat option holders.
