Quarterback Joe Montana, still unable to throw without pain, left the San Francisco 49ers’ training camp to meet with the team doctor and discuss his rehabilitation from elbow surgery.

Coach George Seifert said Montana, 36, was examined by team physician Michael Dillingham. Seifert said there was no immediate word on Dillingham’s findings.

Montana, who has led the 49ers to four Super Bowl victories, missed last season because of a torn right elbow tendon. It was reattached during an October operation performed by Dillingham, who performed a second minor procedure in May to loosen a buildup of scar tissue in the elbow.
