Injury Keeps McEnroe Out of L.A. Tournament
John McEnroe’s right foot injury will keep him out of the Volvo/Los Angeles tournament, which begins today at UCLA. McEnroe’s place in the draw was taken by Danilo Marcelino, and the last wild card went to Michael Joyce.
Bjorn Borg and Jimmy Connors, who haven’t played each other since the 1981 U.S. Open semifinals, are on track for a second-round match. They would meet if Borg beats Chris Pridham and Connors beats qualifier Dave Randall.
The top first-round matches today feature Derrick Rostagno against Marcelino, David Wheaton against Jonathan Stark and Brad Gilbert against Jim Grabb.
