If Fred McGriff was looking for some revenge against Trevor Wilson, he got it Monday night.

McGriff hit two home runs against Wilson and drove in five runs as the San Diego Padres defeated the San Francisco Giants, 6-5, at San Diego.

McGriff homered against Wilson in the first and third innings to extend his NL lead to 23.

Wilson was facing the Padres for the first time since June 18, when he touched off a brawl by hitting McGriff with a pitch after a grand slam by Gary Sheffield. McGriff and Wilson were each suspended for four games and fined $1,000. McGriff also missed three games with a rib cage injury suffered when he threw a punch at Wilson and missed.

Padre rookie Frank Seminara allowed 11 hits in 3 2/3 innings, including six singles in a four-run fourth, as the Giants came back from a 5-0 deficit.

Benito Santiago broke a 5-5 tie in the eighth with a run-scoring ground ball against Mike Jackson (5-4). Jackson had loaded the bases by giving up singles to Tony Gwynn and Sheffield, and walking Darrin Jackson with one out.

Tim Scott (3-1) gave up one hit in one inning and Randy Myers worked the ninth for his 21st save.

McGriff hit a three-run homer to right with one out in the first, then hit a two-run shot to left on Wilson’s first pitch with one out in the third.

It was McGriff’s 16th career two-homer game, and the third time he has driven in five runs.

Montreal 3, Chicago 2--Tim Wallach had three hits, including his 200th homer to lead the Expos at Montreal.

Wallach’s two-run homer against Frank Castillo (6-8) was only his fifth of the season and first since July 5. He pumped his first in the air as he rounded the bases and the crowd responded with a standing ovation.

Moises Alou hit his fifth homer for the Expos.

Dennis Martinez (11-10) gave up one run and seven hits in seven innings for the victory. John Wetteland, the fourth Montreal pitcher, worked the ninth for his 24th save.

St. Louis 2, Philadelphia 1--Bob Tewksbury gave up four hits in eight innings and Ray Lankford had two run-scoring singles for the Cardinals at St. Louis.

The Cardinals have won three of 11 games and all have been Tewksbury starts. Tewksbury (11-4) matched his career high for victories, struck out three and walked none in lowering his major league-leading earned-run average to 1.92.

Lee Smith worked the ninth for his 25th save.

Darren Daulton of the Phillies hit his 19th home run during the seventh.

Lankford had run-scoring singles in the first and fifth against Kyle Abbott (1-12). Lankford has a team-high 46 RBIs.

Abbott gave up two runs and six hits in five innings. His only victory came July 18 against the Dodgers, but the Phillies had won in his three previous starts.
