Right-handed pitcher Juan Guzman was put on the 15-day disabled list by the Toronto Blue Jays because of a muscle strain in his back below the right shoulder.
Guzman (12-3), who lost Monday to the Boston Red Sox, was put on the list retroactive to Tuesday. Guzman missed his previous start because of a tender shoulder.
The Blue Jays recalled right-hander Pat Hentgen from Syracuse.
The Milwaukee Brewers put left-hander Teddy Higuera’s comeback from rotator cuff surgery on hold until next season.
Higuera has tightness in his left shoulder and neck area.
The Baltimore Orioles activated Tim Hulett from the disabled list and sent infielder Jack Voight to Rochester.
Hulett was put on the 15-day disabled list on July 24, one day after his 6-year-old son, Sam, died of injuries suffered when he ran into the path of the car.
The Cincinnati Reds put first baseman Hal Morris on the 15-day disabled list because of a pulled hamstring.
The Seattle Mariners purchased the contract of left-hander Shawn Barton from their farm club at Calgary and designated left-hander Juan Agosto for assignment.
