Halfway through an $8.7-million, three-year contract, Jack Clark of the Boston Red Sox has filed for bankruptcy because of what his attorney calls “expensive hobbies.”
Those hobbies include a fleet of 18 automobiles, several residences and a drag-racing team.
Clark, 36, went from $2 million per year with the San Diego Padres in 1990 to nearly $3 million annually when he signed with Boston for the 1991 through ’93 seasons.
But in a bankruptcy petition filed in Santa Ana on July 30, the Red Sox slugger said he is millions of dollars in debt.
Clark’s debts reportedly are listed as more than $11.45 million, his assets as $4.78 million.
