The sale of the Detroit Tigers from Thomas Monaghan to Mike Ilitch for $85 million is expected to gain preliminary approval today when American League owners meet in Chicago.
The Baltimore Orioles activated catcher Chris Hoiles from the disabled list and optioned catcher Mark Parent to triple-A Rochester.
Pitcher Bill Landrum lost his grievance against the Montreal Expos in a decision announced by arbitrator George Nicolau. Landrum was sent down to Indianapolis on July 27, but disputed the move, saying he was injured and asked to be placed on the disabled list.
