BOXING : Paez Heads Forum Fight Card
The clown prince of Mexicali, Jorge Paez, will face Brian Brown of Lexington, Ky., tonight in a 10-round lightweight bout that Forum Boxing is treating as the 10th anniversary of its present boxing program. Soon to follow as part of a two-month series of boxing shows will be light-flyweight champion Humberto Gonzalez against Napa Kiatwanchai of Thailand in a Sept. 14 title bout.
And a Sept. 28 card will match junior-welterweight Carlos Gonzalez of Mexico and Lorenzo Smith of Chicago.
And Ten Goose Boxing standout Rafael Ruelas will move up steeply in class Oct. 19 at the Forum, when he meets Paez in a 10-round bout.
Also tonight, Ghanan Ike Quartey and Mexico’s Jesus Carenas meet in a super-lightweight bout.
Paez, who combines nonstop boxing style with outlandish ring costumes, back flips and assorted showmanship techniques, isn’t expected to have much difficulty against Brown (18-12-1).
Paez (40-4-4) is a former featherweight champion.
