IRVINE BOXING : Fountain Valley Fighter Hopes to Rebound in Main Event Tonight
- Share via
IRVINE — Fountain Valley’s Jose Castro, hoping to improve on a poor performance in his last bout, will appear in the main event at the monthly boxing program at the Irvine Marriott tonight.
Castro (17-3), a lightweight, meets Gilberto Flores (21-6) of Los Angeles in the main event, two months after Castro lost to Zack Padilla in a main event at the Marriott.
Castro was the favorite when he fought Padilla in June. But Padilla’s late second-round flurry left Castro hurt and hanging on. The bout was finally stopped in the sixth round when Castro could no longer defend himself.
Heavyweight Eddie Guerrero of Irvine makes his professional debut tonight on the undercard. The first of six bouts is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., and tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. today in the hotel ballroom.
