PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Linebacker Moss Ends Holdout

Share

Linebacker Winston Moss ended his holdout Wednesday, leaving only defensive ends Greg Townsend and Scott Davis among the Raider missing.

Moss was at the afternoon practice after signing a contract.

“It was an eternity,” said Moss of his holdout. “It’s a tough thing to sit there and watch games, watch others get contracts. But it takes time.”

The Raiders were granted a two-week exemption before they must count Moss, a six-year veteran, on their roster.

Raider Coach Art Shell said it is possible Moss will play Saturday in the Raiders’ exhibition against the Houston Oilers.

Will the Raiders move again? That’s the big question in the wake of the news that plans to renovate the Coliseum have been scrapped, at least for now.

Defensive end Howie Long, last Raiders to have played in Oakland, knows what answer he would give owner Al Davis if asked.

“I’d tell him to get the hell out of the Coliseum,” Long said. “It’s a terrible place to play. The parking is terrible. The neighborhood is terrible. The facility is terrible. There’s no atmosphere. I wonder why fans show up at all.”

Long was asked if, because of his experience, his fellow players look to him for leadership at a moment like this.

“Right now,” he said, “I think they look to their real estate agent.”
