Countywide : Takasugi Proposes to Dock Lawmakers

Share

Assembly candidate Nao Takasugi pledged Thursday that, if elected, his first act would be to introduce legislation penalizing state lawmakers for failing to approve a budget on time.

Takasugi, who won the Republican nomination for the 37th Assembly District, said the Legislators Budget Responsibility Act would dock one day of pay for every day legislators fail to approve a balanced budget.

The budget is currently 58 days overdue.

“Every day the state budget fiasco continues, people in our state suffer,” said Takasugi in a prepared statement. “At the same time, those responsible continue to earn a healthy salary.”

Takasugi, the mayor of Oxnard, said his legislation also would withhold additional funds that legislators receive for spending extra time dealing with the budget crisis in Sacramento.

Takasugi is competing against Democratic candidate Roz McGrath in the 37th Assembly District, which encompasses Moorpark, Camarillo, Oxnard, Port Hueneme and most of Thousand Oaks.
