National League President Bill White denied a protest by the Pittsburgh Pirates of Monday night’s 5-4 loss to the Dodgers.

Pirate Manager Jim Leyland protested the game, claiming a second-inning double by Jose Lind of the Pirates should have been a home run.

Lind hit a fly ball that hit the fence and was deflected over the fence by left fielder Tom Goodwin.

White ruled that because the ball hit the fence before Goodwin’s glove, it was no longer “in flight” under baseball rules.
