Sinjin Smith and Randy Stoklos will sit out the $250,000 Miller Lite U.S. pro beach volleyball championships this weekend unless the tour’s board of directors rescinds a $70,000 fine against them.

Smith and Stoklos, both of Pacific Palisades, met the Tuesday entry deadline for the three-day tournament, which starts today at the Hermosa Beach Pier.

They are seeded second in the 48-team field behind Kent Steffes of Pacific Palisades and Karch Kiraly of San Clemente.

But Smith said Thursday that he and Stoklos will not compete unless the Assn. of Volleyball Professionals’ board of directors lifts the fine.

They were fined and suspended for one tournament for skipping the Seal Beach Open two weeks ago to play in a tournament in Spain, a violation of the tour players’ agreement.

AVP President Jon Stevenson was unavailable for comment.
