Tight Ends Fare Well in CSUN Scrimmage

Tight end Marlon McBride caught two short-yardage touchdown passes from quarterback Marty Fisher and made two other acrobatic catches to highlight a Cal State Northridge football scrimmage Saturday at North Campus Stadium.
“I don’t mind colliding with those (defensive backs),” McBride said. “I worked real hard in the off-season lifting (weights) so I can get up and get those passes.
“They finally started throwing it to me, so I wanted to catch a few to make sure they keep throwing it to me.”
McBride, a 6-foot-2, 235-pound senior, transferred to CSUN after Texas El Paso switched to the run-and-shoot offense, which does not utilize a tight end.
Chris Fregeau, a 6-6, 230-pound tight end from Pierce College, also made an impression with a catch high above two defenders, and David Romines, a freshman wide receiver from Simi Valley, went over the middle to make a difficult catch in tight quarters.
Along with Fisher, quarterbacks Coley Kyman and Damone Scott performed well, Coach Bob Burt said.
Kyman, an All-American volleyball player, was effective despite playing with a broken right ring finger. He suffered the injury last week while playing basketball during a break between morning and evening football practices.
