No Knee-Slapper: Tommy Smothers is scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery on both knees Tuesday at Centinela Hospital to repair cartilage he tore during the course of several performances. “My brother tried to do a combination of the complicated yo-yo trick ‘Braintwister’ while attempting an impression of Johnny Carson at the same time,” quipped his brother, Dick. “It was like a one-two punch.” Smothers expects to be back in action in time to keep a charity performance date Sept. 19 in Virginia.
