The ‘Bet’ Pays Off: The new “You Bet Your Life,” with Bill Cosby hosting, paid off handsomely for KCBS Channel 2 in its “sneak preview” launch Monday night. Overnight ratings from the A.C. Nielsen Co. put “Bet” on the money with an 11.3 rating and 19% share of the audience at 7:30 p.m. Among the competition, “Hard Copy” on KNBC-TV pulled an 8.6 rating/15 share, and “Candid Camera” on KABC-TV came in with a 6.4 rating/11 share. Each rating point represents 48,751 homes. The competition stiffens next week when “You Bet” will be going up against “Jeopardy!,” the show that has been airing on Channel 2 in that time slot but is moving to 7:30 p.m. on KABC Channel 7.
