Burbank OKs ‘Pull Tab’ Games for Bingo Events
The Burbank City Council has given final approval to an ordinance allowing the sale of “pull tab games” at nonprofit bingo events in the city.
The council voted 5 to 0 to adopt the ordinance Tuesday. It was backed by several nonprofit agencies that raise money through bingo games. The council asked City Atty. Joseph Fletcher to develop the ordinance in July after a public hearing.
The cards are similar to some state lottery games that involve tearing off tabs to reveal numbers on cards. Players hope to line up numbers in winning combinations, Fletcher said. The sale of such cards at bingo games has become more popular since the early 1980s, when the state first authorized cities to allow them, he said. Players often buy the cards for a dollar or less between bingo games.
