Canseco Is Hitless in Ranger Loss
A bewildered Jose Canseco, looking out of place in a Texas uniform, went hitless in four at-bats in the Rangers’ 6-3 loss to the Yankees Friday night at New York.
“I still don’t know why I was traded,” Canseco said. “I’m going through a tough time trying to understand. Maybe I’ll never know.
“It’s strange. It’s different. I haven’t looked in the mirror yet, but I have my No. 33.”
Canseco was called out on strikes twice, popped out and managed a run-scoring groundout. He is in a one-for-15 slump.
Canseco was traded to the Rangers for Ruben Sierra, Jeff Russell, Bobby Witt and $500,000 just before the deadline Monday.
The Yankees’ Roberto Kelly set an American League record when he reached base on an interference call for the seventh time this season because the catcher tipped his bat.
