Four Magic Mountain amusement park workers were injured Saturday while putting out a fire during a “Batman” stunt show.

Sparks from a pyrotechnic device accidentally ignited a landing pad used to cushion a performer who falls from a replica of the set of Gotham City, Los Angeles County Fire Capt. Robert Sheets said.

A propane tank produces the pyrotechnics for the stunt.

About 680 people were forced to leave an outdoor theater when the fire started about 1:45 p.m., park spokeswoman Bonnie Rabjohn said.

“No guests were injured,” she said, adding that there are less than 10 people in the cast of the stunt show.

The Six Flags amusement park employees suffered minor smoke inhalation while dousing the burning foam pad, the fire captain said. The fire was extinguished before firefighters arrived, he added.

The four workers were treated at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital and released, a nursing supervisor said.

“At no time was the audience in danger,” Sheets said.

A new audience was to be admitted to the 1,200-seat theater for an evening “Batman” show including fireworks and a laser light exhibit, Rabjohn said.

Damage was estimated at $3,000, Sheets said.
