Two San Diego men charged with attempted murder fled in a pickup truck Wednesday after freeing themselves from handcuffs and leg irons outside a courtroom here.

David Lee Taylor, 23, of La Jolla and Lance Eric Garza, 22, of San Diego escaped while being led off a bus outside the Tulare-Pixley Municipal Court. Tulare County sheriff’s deputies and marshals gave chase, but the men remained at large, Capt. David Whaley said.

The two reportedly fled in a pickup and headed north on California 99 with authorities in pursuit.

“We consider them armed and dangerous,” Whaley said. He wasn’t sure how the men escaped their shackles.

On Friday, the two men allegedly stole two trucks from an equipment store in Visalia. They were apprehended after allegedly leading Tulare police on a chase and shooting and wounding a pedestrian.
