A wave of gang violence swept through San Diego this weekend, leaving two dead and at least seven injured as gunmen opened fire in three unrelated drive-by shootings and one attack at a party.

“We seem to have an awful lot of activity,” San Diego police Lt. Joyce Edgar said.

Police on Sunday were unsure whether the four separate incidents involved the same gangs, Edgar said.

The violence began Saturday after 1 a.m. with a drive-by shooting that left 20-year-old Paul Robledo dead. Witnesses told police that a gunman in a white two-door sports car opened fire on Robledo as he walked through Allen Park in the 700 block of Boundary Street. Robledo was struck in the chest and later died of his wound at UC San Diego Medical Center.

Witnesses told police that Robledo appeared to be walking toward the car, which paused before the gunman fired. When police arrived, they found the young man lying on the ground. The suspect’s car, possibly a Nissan 280Z, fled south on Boundary.

The second victim was slain almost 12 hours later at 12:40 p.m. Saturday. Anthony Dexter Johnson, 35, was standing in the 500 block of Olivewood Terrace, near Ocean View Boulevard, when a car drove by and a gunman opened fire.

When the police arrived at the scene, friends had already left to take Johnson to the hospital. But en route, the friends collided with another car at 43rd and Delta streets. Johnson was then transferred to an ambulance that carried him to UCSD Medical Center, where he died.

Witnesses told police that before the shooting, they had seen a small, red two-door car driving south on Olivewood Terrace as Johnson walked on the east side of the street. It appeared to witnesses that Johnson--who lived in the 700 block of Fergus Street--got into an argument with the driver.

Police believe the incident may be related to the purchase of drugs.

In the third drive-by shooting Saturday, Andre Hart was shot once in the jaw as he walked with a friend near El Cajon Boulevard and 50th street at 9:25 p.m. Hart, 32, was treated for the wound to his lower left jaw at Villa View Community Hospital.

Three suspects fled south in a dark blue compact car after firing two or three shots, police said.

The fourth gang-related violence of the weekend occurred at a party that began Saturday night.

The party, in a home in the 100 block of 25th Street, dissolved into a dispute about 12:50 a.m. Sunday. The argument became violent, ending with five people shot and two stabbed. None of the injuries were fatal. One of the stabbed victims fled the scene before police arrived.

Police are investigating all four incidents.
