An Ojai man was killed Monday when his bicycle was struck by a vehicle as he was leaving his job at the Ojai Valley Inn, a coroner’s official said.
Jose Lopez, 53, was pronounced dead at 3:51 p.m. at Ojai Valley Hospital, said Ventura County Deputy Coroner Jim Wingate.
Lopez was brought to the hospital suffering from major head injuries from the collision, which had occurred about an hour earlier, Wingate said.
Lopez was hit on Highway 33 near Hermosa Road, one of the roads leading to the luxury country club, Wingate said.
The name of the driver of the vehicle and other details of the accident were not available late Monday. Lopez is survived by children in the Ojai area and a wife in Mexico, Wingate said.
