VENTURA : Comprehensive Plan for Bike Paths OKd

Share

The Ventura City Council adopted a comprehensive plan for city bike paths on Monday.

The General Bikeway Plan outlines policies and goals related to bike paths, as well as bikeway design standards.

“It will be a ready reference for planning and development of bike facilities,” said Barbara Harison, director of parks and recreation.

The main reason for the plan’s adoption is to make the city eligible for state and federal grants to help build new bike paths, Harison said.

“They require a plan . . . to show that you are making a concerted effort to develop bikeways,” Harison said.

City officials did not know how many miles of bike path are in Ventura but estimated that about 2% of commuters in Ventura County use bicycles.
