World driving champion Nigel Mansell signed to drive a Lola Ford-Cosworth for the Newman/Haas racing team in the 1993 Indy Car World Series and Indianapolis 500, making him the first reigning Formula One champion to switch to Indy cars full time.
Mansell, who has won eight Formula One Grand Prix races this year, will join Mario Andretti on the team headed by actor Paul Newman and Carl Haas.
Mansell began his Grand Prix career in 1980 and has 29 victories in 178 races, third on the all-time list. He was the Formula One runner-up three times and clinched his first championship in August.
