Reserve Darren Studstill threw three touchdown passes in the fourth quarter Saturday to rally West Virginia from a 19-point deficit to a 34-33 victory over Maryland.

West Virginia (2-0-1) took the lead on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Studstill to tailback Adrian Murrell with 1:20 left.

Maryland (0-3) had one more chance, but John Kaleo’s pass fell incomplete on fourth and eight at the West Virginia 35.

Maryland stretched a 17-14 halftime lead to 33-14 with 14:48 left on a 12-yard scoring pass from Kaleo to Marcus Badgett.

Studstill, who completed 14 of 21 passes for 166 yards after replacing injured Jake Kelchner at the start of the second half, found Murrell for a 10-yard score on the next drive to cut it to 33-21 and later threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Ed Hill.

On the final drive, Studstill’s 21-yard pass to Jay Kearney on fourth down set up Murrell’s score.
